We kindly invite you to the opening of the exhibition 11 x one renovation as the first choice, which will take place on Monday, 14 October 2024, at 7 p.m. in the DESSA gallery.
Renovation, adaptation, extension, extension, rebuilding, restoration, reconstruction, addition... - these are all terms used in relation to renovation. This multitude of different words with their specific meanings speaks to the multitude of possibilities that renovation opens up. Renovation is not something one-size-fits-all, each one is unique and requires relatively more engagement from architects and clients. Although recently architects and clients are increasingly opting for renovations, they should be opting for them even more often. Encouraging renovation should also be part of the national housing policy, as it is a more sustainable way of solving the housing issue by using the existing building stock. A study of 11 examples of implemented projects highlights good practices that are already established in the renovation of single-family buildings.
In the selection of this year's DESSA exhibition 11 x ena, we included eleven single-family houses, renovated in the years 2014-2024. They show the renovation of buildings as an attractive and sensible way to solve the housing problem. Each of the presented architectural examples contains elements, ideas or spaces that are particularly close to the authors' hearts. The most relevant are the responses of users who talk about how old houses are living their second or third life.
Make renovation the first choice!
