You are kindly invited to the jubilee 40th Piran Days of Architecture on Saturday, November 25, 2023. This year's theme of international architectural conference is CONTEXT. CONCEPT. CONSENSUS.
Piran Days of Architecture (PIDA) is an international architectural conference with one of the longest traditions in the world. Initiated by a group of Slovene architects and from 1986 to 2007 presided by architect prof. Vojteh Ravnikar (1943–2010) it has taken place annually since 1983 at the end of November in the charming, medieval Slovene coastal town of Piran and from 2019 due to unpredictable sea flooding in the nearby Portorož Auditorium. Since 2008, it has been organized by the younger generation of Slovene architects under the leadership of architect Maja Ivanič.
The aim of the conference is to evaluate the social architectural situation and to present the most progressive and innovative ideas of contemporary architectural and spatial production, which preserves cultural identity and diversity through the understanding and respect of the geographical and cultural context.
The Piranesi Award was created as part of the Piran Days of Architecture international conference, and it is presented by the DESSA Gallery, the Coastal Galleries of Piran and the Piranesi International Jury. The award, named after the 18th century Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), whose family roots are said to be from Piran, rewards the best architectural realizations created in the last two years in the territory of Central European countries.
The Piranesi Award was presented to diverse projects of various sizes and programs that reflect the relationship of modern architecture to the natural, cultural, historical and social context.
Honorary patron of jubilee 40th PIDA is Anna Ramos, director of Fundació Mies van der Rohe.
